Chemistry

Isolation of chemical markers from plant samples and analysis of chemicals from plant and mineral samples. The drugs are identified and analysed using instruments such as UV, IR, Polarimeter, TLC, Gas Chromatography techniques to develop fingerprinting profile of raw drugs, ingredients and formulations. Qualitative and quantitative estimations of chemical markers and active constituents of drugs can be carried out. Numerous tests are carried out to assess the physicochemical and phytochemical parameters for single drugs and finished products.

Biochemistry​

The department can perform haematological and biochemical evaluations of samples using sophisticated instruments like cell counter, auto analysers, urine analyser etc. In-vitro analysis of the samples also studied here.

Botany/Pharmacognosy​

Identity of drugs is an area of rising concern today. Macroscopic and microscopic studies are being carried out to establish authenticity of the raw drug before being used in preparation of medicines.

Pilot Production Unit

The department is also involved in the preparation of Ayurveda formulations. The formulations are prepared in different batches with raw drugs collected from different regions of the country in order to establish the standards for the formulation. The centre also develops In-process quality control checks and in-house quality standards.
